Leading Dance Producers to Appear in 3rd Series of Mixmasters

‘Mixmasters’, the music series that brings the cutting-edge clubbing experience to the small screen, returns to ITV1 in September - and leftfield dance producers Slam, Si Begg, DJ Spooky, Transparent Sound, along with independent labels Morr Music (Germany), Versatile Records (France) and Pork Recordings, are providing exclusive mixes.
The show, based on the concept of DJ / VJ (visual jockey) sets, is still the only show of its kind and features exclusive DJ mixes fused with visual mixes from leading VJs, visual artists and animators.
The half-hour shows feature two mixes per episode along with short interviews with the artists involved. Addictive TV, the producers behind 'Mixmasters', have signed up Slam, Si Begg, Transparent Sound, DJ Spooky, Nick Hoeppner from Morr Music, Porky from Pork Recordings and Gilb’r from Versatile Records to provide mixes for the forthcoming series. Visual artists, VJs and animators involved include Run Wrake (who’s made promos for Howie B, FSOL and The Stereo MCs), Ultrascope (Orbital's resident VJ), Japan’s Glamoove, France’s Metronomic, Mexico’s Nortec Collective and the Addictive TV crew themselves.
'Mixmasters' is executive produced by Nick Clarke and produced by Addictive TV's Graham Daniels, a VJ himself who's mixed visual sets for Howie B, Derrick May and Fatboy Slim. Series 1 featured mixes from artists such as Krust (Full Cycle / Reprazent), Coldcut (Ninja Tune) and Tim 'Love' Lee (Tummy Touch) plus highly regarded independent record labels such as Pussyfoot, Rephlex, Ninja Tune, Pork, Hospital, Botchit & Scarper and Hydrogen Dukebox. VJs and digital artists included Ultrascope (Orbital's resident VJ), Exceeda, JustD (Full Cycle) and Addictive TV themselves.
Series 2 featured more DJ mixes from labels in the independent scene and included Aim (Grand Central), Fila Brazillia (23 Records), Die (Full Cycle), Scanner (Sulphur), Ashtrax (Deviant), Bullitnuts (Pork) and the 2 Amigos (Hombre) plus mixes from European labels including Bungalow and Eleganz in Germany, Pro-Zak Trax and Musiques Hybrides in France and Moonshine from the USA. Visuals came from the Addictive TV crew, animator Neil McFarland (creator of artwork & visuals for the Super Furry Animals), bootleg experts Eclectic Method, visual sampling pioneer Brian Kane (EBN), top German VJs Giraffentoast and German AV act Bauhouse, French VJs eMovie and leading Japanese VJ crew TomoGrapher.
"Mixmasters is unique in bringing together many of the foremost VJs, visual crews and independent labels working in the club scene today and giving them a mainstream platform to air their creative talents. Independent labels are reasonably represented on radio but currently not on TV, Mixmasters goes some way to redressing this" said Addictive TV's executive producer Nick Clarke.
"We're simply creating a different kind of entertainment experience than we've all been used to from our TV screens," said Graham Daniels, producer and VJ with Addictive TV. "It's great that ITV have commissioned this third series, it shows there's a real appetite for this new genre which has previously been sorely underrated as an art form."
The new series of ‘Mixmasters’ will begin screening in September. Weekly listings for each show will be coming soon.
