Back Room Volume 1 – mixed by Mettle Music image

Released 21st May 2006

Here we're proud to present the brand new "Back Room" compilation series from U.S label Kinkysweet Recordings. You may know Kinkysweet from their other highly respected series such as "Afterdark" & "Frequent Flyer" which are leading brands in the North American market. The label was launched for those who have grown up with a passion for dance music, but whose lives don’t now necessarily include late night clubbing and as the nightlife has become mellower, they're looking for music that reflects this.

Compiler Nic Conef has taken a break from his roles as highly respected producer, DJ and label manager for Manchester’s superb Mettle Music to put together this 1st volume of the "Back Room" Series. No stranger to putting together quality compilations, Nic is now carving himself quite a niche as a much in demand selector of quality tuneage for the more discerning listener. His credits include the critically acclaimed "Destination Manchester" on Bar De Lune, "Frequent Flyer" for Kinkysweet and of course Mettle Music’s own "Vibes" series which is developing a growing reputation as a premier series of quality & musical substance with the 'thumbs up' from an illustrious set of taste-maker DJs such as Mr Scruff, Rainer Truby, Domu, Nik Weston, Rocky, Beatfanatic, Spiritual South, Brian Tappert & of course us here at Clubbing UK to name only a few.

So on to The Back Room, this is the club’s quieter room, the one where the grown-ups meet to reminisce about the old, share the new and check out the future, a place where the DJ colours your environment with a sophisticated musical palette.

Looped vocal snippets and broken house beats start things off with King Britt’s Scuba Mix of "In Love Again" by Chris Brann. The fabulous H-Foundation’s song-based "Tonight" also gets the King’s re-edit touch with his self-proclaimed Sexy Mix.

Gorgeous lyrics continue with the deep house sounds of Andraya’s "Inside Of Your Soul 03", followed by two swish tunes from a hot new name in my artist dictionary;
The Rurals with the fantastic "I Am" & "Rebel", right before the Weekender’s classy album mix of "Spirit In Your Soul".

Trentmoller’s Deep Dub Mix is a slightly twisted re-edit of the Rhythm Slaves "The Light You Will See", leading on to the more emotional sounds of Domu’s "So Precious", rounding off mix numero uno.

Nic immediately starts off CD2 with the enchanting sounds of the Jacko-esque, Maurice Fulton remix of "Welcome" by Alessandroni, Paul & Honesty. The more familiar funky tones of Vartan’s "Remember" strike at the heart of the old skool.

The garage Swag Mix of Sean Dimitrie featuring Tim Fuller’s "So Hot" combines piano, samba and half step, blended into the first track from Crazy P (formally Crazy Penis) their unique style of impeccable vocal house slots in perfectly - the next chords to tug at the heart is the other Crazy P choon, the imaginatively titled "Bumcop" - with no, or probably little relation to that George Michael incident, is an instrumental delight.

Saving the best till last, soulful and funky masterpieces like the Solid Groove Mix of "Can’t Get Away (From Your Love)" by Only Freak and the Larry Levan Weekend Mix of "Weekend" by Class Action should have you skipping round your front, or rather Back Room. I was anyway.

All highly delectable, uplifting house music at its best.
