Cream x10 Book Review

The complete story of Cream, ten years on...
In October 1992, James Barton, Darren Hughes and Andy Carroll opened a club in Liverpool’s Wolstenholme Square, called Cream - a name which he actually borrowed from a rival promoter. No one could have predicted the success that was to follow; 10 years later the name Cream would be celebrated as one of the nations biggest, best and most respected clubs.
The full incredible story of Cream’s ten years has been documented in Cream x10, published to coincide with the culmination of the tenth birthday celebrations. All of Cream’s major players have revealed the secrets behind the club’s rise to the top, with DJs, staff, clubbers and everyone who made the last decade so special contributing their memories.
With a foreword by Pete Tong and introduction by James Barton, Cream x10 has the complete Cream story from the beginning, including the rise to Superclub status, the split from founding partner Darren Hughes, and why, after 10 years, James Barton has decided to close the Liverpool club where it all began. Packed with full colour photos, there are also contributions from a number of celebrities including Fatboy Slim, Kylie, Zoe Ball and some of the world’s top DJ’s.
The special limited edition hardback also includes an exclusive CD showcasing some of the best dance music.
Featuring 10 tracks including material from Seb Fontaine, Yousef, Justin Robertson plus tracks from leading dance labels such as Norman Cook’s Southern Fried, John Digweed’s Bedrock, Slam’s Soma and, of course, the Cream imprint.
AUTHOR: Ben Turner was the founding editor of dance magazine Muzik. He has previously written Ibiza - Inspired Images From The Island Of Dance (Ebury Press, 1999), produced and directed a raft of dance and clubbing programmes for ITV and Channel 4, and been founding editorial director of music media group Worldpop. He now works as the director of Graphite Media Ltd.
