Cristian Varela - Ekspozicija Vol 03 Changements

Cristian Varela - Ekspozicija 03 Changements image

Released 30th May 2006

Cristian Varela was born into a family of artists where he developed the skills he needed to become the great Spanish Producer-DJ he is today. His father was a drama theatre 1st actor (Dramatic National Theatre); his mother and grandmother, ballet teachers (Lycee Francais De Madrid); his grandfather, a radio station director (Radio Madrid), etc. Living in such a creative environment, he was inspired to learn how to play piano when he was only nine years old and was making classical compositions only a couple of years later.

In 2000, together with his good friend and studio partner Marco Bailey, Cristian created the popular record label Pornographic Recordings which stands easily among the best techno labels worldwide. The label also provides opportunities to new talents from all over the world.

The following year, 2001 saw Cristian motivated by his own album and he created a new music label called Donkeyhead Recordings where he played different styles such as electro, ambient, house and sometimes techno, and where he utilized the pseudonym of Carlos Duran. With this name we found Cristian playing the most smart sessions in places like Chicago, New York, Madrid and many more.

Christian opens his 3 deck set in Brazil with a hop, skip and a jump, blasting off with Alex Under’s pumping "Par". Slick and quick mixes glide through to a name mentioned at least twice in any hard dance compilation of late, Trentmoller. His "Gush" track released on Tic Tac Toe Records continues the distinctly acid theme.

Pitching things up for the alpha-numeric "2A" and "My Number One", Varela steps back down for the funkier Agaric & Bruce Logan collaboration "I’m Always Watching" and the dirty, tribal type sounds of the Sprit Catcher’s Way Of Life Mix of "Mega Bit Me" by Offshore Funk.

Christian’s own "Luna Waves" is an electronic acid fuelled stormer. Getting on the remix tip Varela’s industrial rehash of "City Lights" by DP-6 leads on to the equally intense sounds of Gaetano Pariso’s "Statica C".

Rounding off the live mix, the L.O.V.E Club in Sao Paolo are treated to some bass-heavy chaos of "Schacht" and the mechanical melodies on the Mark Broom mix of "Lucid Moments".

A deep and intriguing mix from one of Madrid’s finest DJs and producers, Cristian Varela is certainly an international name to watch.
