Defected In the House Miami 2005 Review

Weds 23rd March & Thursday 24th March 2005
The Original Pioneers Vs The New Masters
Wednesday afternoon after recovering from a heavy night at Opium, we headed a few blocks down the road for the Defected Pool Party @ the National Hotel for The Original Pioneers vs The New Masters (Part 1)…
Through the reception area to the rear of the hotel, you walk out to reveal the amazing two-tier swimming pool, complete with hot-tubs, beach-bar and Defected dance-floor. The pool is surrounded by over-hanging palm trees, sunbeds are scattered around the edges with muscles and pert tits everywhere…
In front of the DJ booth is the boardwalk and the fresh summer breeze before the ocean. Everything seemed to kicking be off nicely, Simon Dunmore (Defected boss) opening, followed by Bobby from Bobby and Steve (Soul Heaven), playing a truly Soulful house set, until the clouds greyed over and it inevitably started to rain! Rain in f*cking Miami?!
We gave it thirty minutes or more of huddling under the banners to shield from the rain, getting cosy, they rushed to get the decks covered quickly and done an admirable job continuing the tunes… With Mother Nature seemingly unimpressed, we decided to hit the road and party on, dude.

Thursday evening saw Part 2 of the Defected parties at Amika in Washington Avenue. The club’s high ceilings, smoke machines, caged dancers in animal costumes and leather sofas covering the wall and projected images all made for more good vibes in the air tonight. At least we were guaranteed this one couldn’t get dampened down.
Copyright kicked it off before Parisian (and established Daftcrew member) DJ Gregory, had the crowds going wild with CD accapellas and disco samples a plenty… Before you could say "Damn those French guys rock!", they were making way for one of Defected’s most prolific live performances…
Blaze featuring the magnificent Barbara Tucker live stole the show, those pumping piano keys and uplifting gospel chants of "Most Precious Love" tear the roof off before the fantastic, and endlessly talented Tucker makes her mark by adding that unique soul-diva sound.

With Kings Of Tomorrow man Sandy Rivera and Martin Solveig previewing his huge vocal groover "Everybody" track still queuing by the booth, the Amika crowds were buzzing with excitement. Miami’s definitely Defected.
By the end of the conference week, over 10,000 ballots were cast and Defected won "Best Global Dance Label" at the International Dance Music Awards 2005, held by the Miami Winter Music Conference on Southbeach. Other labels nominated in this category were Ministry Of Sound, Positiva, Stealth, Subliminal and Ultra… A truly deserved recognition of the shear quality of Defected’s recent releases.
Without a doubt two parties we shall never forget (or remember entirely), coming from one the world’s leading independent record labels and boundary-pushing music collectives that is, Defected Records.
