Disco Vibes - Club Selection

Disco Vibes - Club Selection image

Released 18th September 2006

Disco; house music's respected but sometimes errant, misunderstood 'foremother' has for many a long year now influenced the great & the good of the of the post '88 dance music generation & here we take a look at some of the finest examples of disco-influenced club music past, present & future.

One significant trait links all these post-modern disco-tastic gems together & that is that they remain true to the original spirit of the genre. Those amongst us with a more discerning ear, have had to make numerous sharp swerves over the years to avoid some of the less than inspiring takes on the genre (filtered anyone?), but thankfully we managed to avoid any nasty collisions while putting this compilation together & the grand old girl still survives to tell her tale.

The thing with these tracks is that you can tell the work's been put in, the music's either played by real musicians (yes 'played' not 'sampled') or its been put together with a dexterous & soulful touch by people who know their shit. This may seem a bit of a radical notion to the casual observer, but thankfully for the last decade or so there has always been those producers who despite the harsh economic realities (this really don't pay) have truly kept it 'real' and paid respectful homage to those who have gone before, bringing the true spirit of the genre forward & adding their own twist for new generations to enjoy.

Mr Jigga’s "Every Morning" kicks off the Disco Vibes: Club Selection mix in glorious fashion with a disco fueled debut track. Followed up by some funky and melodic, tribal influenced beats from Simon Grey and Tama Waipara (Jersey St on the remix).

Piano keys and jazzy undertones seep in via Fumi’s "Stone That The Builder Refused". Uplifting retro sounds of Mettle Music Collective’s own "Slip & Slide" continue on to the disco mix of Ian Preece’s "Superfuzz".

Sexy vocals and musical rhythms from the now defunct Paper Recordings feature via Hot Toddy’s "Ebers Groove". Rouding off the album is another exclusive, Sax heavy, instant dancefloor-rammer "Don’t Stop".

With every release Mettle Music reveal another layer of diversity - Disco Vibes: Club Selection is no different. Mettle we salute you!
