PLASA - the definitive Sound and Light show

The Professional Lighting and Sound Association (PLASA) is a trade association representing companies who manufacture, supply, hire, install or use lighting, sound, audio-visual and related technologies within the entertainment, presentation, architectural and communication industries. The association promotes all aspects of the industry on a global basis, representing the common interest of its membership. At the heart of PLASA is its annual London show with more than 350 companies exhibiting their products and services.

Nearly 14,000 visitors attended the PLASA Show in 2002 of which 25% were from overseas. The PLASA Show is recognised as THE international trade event in this industry’s calendar.  Access www.PLASA.org for more information.

New Look - the total look and atmosphere of the show is being revitalised for 2003. A project manager has been appointed to implement the feature areas which include a central networking area, situated in the hub of the show.

The PLASA Pavilion - recognising that new companies may become big exhibitors in the future, the PLASA Pavilion returns to offer start-ups an all inclusive package and the opportunity to talk to the 13,000 global visitors. Companies signed up for this year include Bould Lighting Technology, Infinium Technologies and Stonewood Audio

Architectural Audio & Visual - a new show sector which recognises the growth of the architectural lighting, contract audio and vision industry into this market. Products, case studies, new ideas and creative design solutions will all be showcased, aiming to inspire architects, specifiers, installers and end users.

New Technology Gallery - for the first time this is situated at the front of the hall and will present the many new product innovations that have been nominated for the PLASA Awards for Product Excellence, sponsored by Lighting&Sound International. The awards ceremony will be held on Tuesday 9th September at 6.30pm in the press area on the Top Deck.

Production Village - This will be an area with facilities dedicated to technicians including The PLASA Crew Zone supported by Total Production, offering a place to relax and catch up with old friends by registering at Stageaccess.com. The PLASA Backstage Area, organized by the PSA, will offer ‘hands on’ access to products.

DJ Sunday - This is the dynamic chill-out zone where on Sunday 7 September the scratchers and bedroom wannabees compete to launch their DJ careers at the recognised DJ Competition, sponsored by Gemini. Throughout the day there are demo’s and discussions sponsored by iDJ Magazine and supported by major DJ manufacturers to hone the hottest mixers and groovers.  Access www.plasashow.com/dj for more information

PLASA Professional Development Programme at the PLASA Show - PLASA is emphasising the importance of training development via the PLASA Professional Development Programme (PPDP). The format for this year's show has changed to offer more choice and variety. The programme is supported by some of the industry’s leading trade bodies and associations, and many of the seminars and master classes at the Show are devised to provide professional education and additional skills. Expert speakers will offer their experience, as well as anecdotes from careers, which will touch on everything from technology, leisure and attractions to architectural lighting. Meanwhile Round Table Debates enable members of the industry to exchange views and raise issues in an informal environment.

After last year's record turn-out for DJ Sunday at PLASA, iDJ magazine will once more be hosting the show's unofficial 'open day' for the UK's army of bedroom DJs. DJ Sunday is a chance for DJs of all levels to check out the latest DJ kit at Earl's Court, test their skills in the Gemini DJ competition, and learn more about the art and the business of DJing at the iDJ Talk Zone seminars, sponsored again by leading DJ manufacturers.

"This is a unique day in the calendar for DJs," says iDJ's publisher Chris Kempster. "Not only do visitors get to see the widest available range of DJ gear, they also get to see top DJs in action at the seminars, and even get an iDJ goodie bag stuffed with freebies from the leading manufacturers. Last year we gave away literally thousands!" DJ Sunday also attracts the biggest names in the dance industry, with the likes of Roger Sanchez, Grandmaster Flash, Top Stephan, the Scratch Perverts, Smokin Joe, Xpress 2 and a host of others appearing last year.

Nicola Rowland, Show Director for the PLASA Show, is confident of attracting even more visitors this year: "We're enhancing the marketing campaign for this year's DJ Sunday, which will include an eFlyer campaign, web and magazine advertising, and editorial support from iDJ, so expect bigger numbers than ever."
