DJ YeahThe Beastie Boys came back in 1999 featuring a former DMC/Technics World Champion, Mixmaster Mike (from Invisbl Skratch Piklz). Beck, a rock act, features a world finalist, US Champion DJ Swamp in his line-up. The X-Ecutioners, featuring previous world champion Roc Raida, teamed up with Linkin Park and had a top 10 hit. The 2000 runner up DJ Dexter is part of highly acclaimed Australian beatmasters The Avalanches. Nelly Furtado’s tour DJ is previous Canadian champion Lil Jazz, former UK Champ 2002 DJ Skully has his own show on Kiss FM and our own DJ Pogo was spotted strutting his stuff with Beverley Knight on Top Of The Pops!

What does this prove? It proves that everyone you see on stage during the 2005 DMC/Technics World Finals are musicians and it proves that the Technics SL1200 is not simply a turntable - it’s a musical instrument. With scratching sound fx now in many records released, this competition is now more relevant than ever.

A recent music industry headline news story claims vinyl is on the come-back. More turntables are being sold then ever before. The explanation? Everyone wants to be a DJ. It wasn't mentioned that the source of inspiration for this artistry for the past 20 years, isn't in Brooklyn or the Bronx but is a British Company known as DMC.

This year is a special year for DMC and the World DJ Championships. It’s a Birthday!!! Now into its 20th year, DMC and Technics, hosts of the world’s most prestigious DJ Championship, are on the verge of completing 4 months worth of heats in over 20 countries and are getting ready for the World Finals. DMC will stage the DMC/Technics UK Final at the Hammersmith Palais, where over 2,000 die hard fanatics will meet armed with a personal opinion to cast over the 12 competing finalists.

Meanwhile, hundreds of DJ hopefuls have practised to perfect their skills, tightening that crucial 6 minute routine in an attempt to become a turntable legend like luminaries such as Cash Money, Cutmaster Swift, Craze, A-trak, Q-Bert and Roc Raida to name just a few that came and conquered.

Current DMC World Champion, USA’s I-Emerge, will be defending the title he won last year. Look out for hotly tipped UK entrant Muzzel, will hopefully battle for the title DJ Blakey so narrowly missed out on last year.

A brief breakdown of rules and descriptions of the events:
Individual - 6 minute set where DJ’s display mixing and turntablist skills.

Team Battle - Team version of the Individual event.
Battle for World Supremacy - Individual DJ’s battle head to head in a fast paced competition giving the contestants 90 seconds to prove themselves as the World’s best.
