Dour Festival 2006 - European Alternative Music Event

During the summer, Belgium is host to many festivals. One of the biggest, The Dour Festival 2006, will be held in the village of Dour, close by the French border, on an old coal mine site: La Plaine de La Machine a Feu.
The 18th annual Dour Festival will be held between July 13th and 16th 2006 Dour is an independent festival- it's been organised from its beginnings in 1989 by Carlo Di Antonio with the help of most of the village folks and hundreds of kids landing a hand just for the experience.
Dour Festival is the biggest event in the French speaking side of Belgium. It was sold-out for the first time in 2005 with over 128.000 people over 4 days. In July 2006 its winning formulae won't change: eclectism, party atmosphere, small entrance fee, huge camping site and over 200 live performances in many different genres. Dour festival is an ALTERNATIVE event without any big headliner but with the door wide open for up and coming acts alongside more seasoned bands in a wide range of musical genres.
The festival is built around two outdoor stages and four tents of various sizes, it lasts for four days with gigs starting at 11am and run all the through the day and night until 5am the next day. Bands and DJ's come from all over the globe and all the current non mainstream musical styles are present at Dour. In Dour, we like to transgress rules and habits: We thrive on bringing exciting new acts and sounds to a hungry audience, avid to be the first to see the next big thing live on stage without forgetting more seasoned artists who have influenced those spanking new bands. As a result, its audience doesn't come to the festival for one big act but to try and taste a lot of different music in a festive atmosphere. This makes Dour an original and unique festival in Europe.
Having evolved so much recently, the slogan has evolved from "Belgian Alternative Music Event" becomes "European Alternative Music Event" to reflect the fact that festival goers from all over Europe are now coming to Dour every summer. The Dour Festival has put environmental issues high on its agenda. In 2006, the festival will develop a series of actions to try and lower the impact of its 4 days of partying on the environment. A code based on the Declaration of Rio will be handed to the thousands of young festival goers, partners and shops to help all concerned on issues such as the treatment and recycling of rubbish, water wasting and more...
Are you in a band? Would you like to play at Dour 2006? The festival is partner of PUREDEMO to help discover unsigned bands in any musical genre. Puredemo is a weekly competition initiated by PureFm, the youth channel of the National Belgian Radio. Check out www.purefm.be for more on that.
