Encompass 2006 - London Dance Music Conference

A London festival that navigates cutting edge music.
Thursday May 11, Friday May 12, Saturday May 13
After a thoroughly enjoyable and successful inaugural event, Encompass returns to the capital in 2006 with more quality live acts, DJs, art, workshops, seminars and great parties spread over 3 nights in May.
In 2005 Encompass launched what many knew was much needed and long overdue in the capital. A London festival with a vision of bringing music, art, business and parties under one unifying umbrella. Hosting 19 record label showcases across 6 venues with some 90 performances from artists as diverse as Prince Po, Stewart Walker, Cagedbaby, Goldie, Tom Middleton, T.Raumschmiere, BLIM, The Hacker, 20:20 Soundsystem, The Infadels and Jazzanova, the music formed the nucleus from which everything else revolved.
The Workshop held industry panels, consumer talks, a demo jury and a Q&A with one of the main pioneers of independent electronic music, Mute Record’s Daniel Miller. Cybersonica hosted 15 sonic art installations from around the world whilst the technology side had UMAMi bringing together artists, thinkers and industry spokespeople to discuss the impact of emerging technologies on music.
Now Encompass plan to do it all again and unite the elements of cutting edge music in a city that lives and breathes music. On the nights of Thursday 14th, Friday 15th and Saturday 16th of May five venues will host official label showcases in the surrounding Shoreditch area. "We’re focussing on the Festival and the Workshop as the two best elements of our first year," says Encompass’s Jon Terry. "In addition, we are expanding the partner event programme: promoters interested in participating should visit the website to find out more and we are also looking for unsigned acts to play support slots at each label showcase, so send demos in
now."
Each night an Encompass wristband will give you access to every showcase. There will also be an extended programme of partnered events across London including gigs, exhibitions, talks and discounts.
The Workshop will take place during the day and is an opportunity to learn more about the culture and business behind music. It will be aimed at all music fans and those wanting to learn more about the behind the scenes workings of the music industry. From one to one 15 minute mentor sessions with accountants, managers, agents, lawyers and publishers to interviews with artists, label directors and industry figureheads the workshop will give fresh insight to those already in the industry and a wealth of knowledge to those looking to gain access into the business of music.
