Godskitchen 5th Birthday Review

Godskitchen 5th Birthday Review image

Saturday 28th September 2002 - The Telewest Arena - Newcastle

After the overwhelming success of the last event Godskitchen staged at The Newcastle Telewest Arena; it was obvious why the prestigious club night chose to make a welcome return to this awesome venue.  At the tender age of five, Godskitchen put on a birthday bash which would put even the S Club Juniors to shame!  As though the heavenly presence of the Godskitchen angel wasn’t enough, the ‘lil Sundissential boy and girl also hopped on board to give hard house addicts the ride of their lives.

The DJ line-up boasted more big names than you can shake a tickling stick at! When we arrived; Ferry Corsten was setting the standard in the main arena. The euphoria spread like wildfire as the trance tunes tripped over his fingers and floated over the eager thousands. When we went to check out the hard house haven, we found The Tidy Boys rockin’ the SunnyD decks. The crowd was bubbling with enthusiasm as The Boys did the business; delivering endless uplifting, bouncy beats which we jumped upon so that the springs in our shoes almost broke! Anne Savage was next up to deliver a cacophony of craziness to send heads spinning through a whirlwind of wackiness!

Meanwhile, in the main Godskitchen Arena, Tiesto had taken up his position in the sky (the DJ console was cleverly set-up to resemble a cloud!) Famous for his unique, innovative blend of melodic trance, Tiesto has made several appearances at Godskitchen’s regular Friday night at Code in Birmingham. Indeed, he has played six-hour sets for the nightclub which have proven extremely popular with the punters, and in Newcastle, he impressed those gathered yet again.

As you’ve probably guessed by now, we spent the night bouncing between the two rooms as we really were spoilt for choice. Rob Tissera played a set infused with creativity and originality. He weaved unique mixes of classic tunes into the fabric of his sound and left us wondering how he does it. Fergie was simultaneously generating a very different vibe in the Godskitchen arena. The driving drumbeats thundered through the dance floor and pummelled our ears.

I must admit, it wasn’t my cup of tea so we headed back into the Sundissential room where Andy Farley had the cyberkids wrapped around his little finger, jigging about like puppets on a string. Lisa Lashes took over for the last set, maintaining the atmosphere at boiling point, whilst Mauro Picotto brought things to a heady climax in the main arena. Our expectations of the night had been high, and if you were to ask me if those expectations were met; I’d have to say "Why eye man!".
