Gold Digging - As Sampled by Tupac

Gold Digging as Sampled by Tupac image

Released 25th September 2006

The third volume in the Gold Digging series presents 20 original songs as sampled by the late, great Tupac Shakur.

Fans, critics and journalists constantly rank 2Pac as the greatest rapper ever, debatable perhaps. Although he is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the best selling rap/hip-hop artist of all time! Having sold over 73 million albums worldwide and achieving no-less-than 17 top ten singles in his native USA, his success has been phenomenal to say the least.

As in the previous Gold Digging volumes, (Kayne West and Jay-Z) this double CD brings you the original tracks as used on the global hits "Changes", "Do For Love", "I Ain’t Mad At Ya" and many more.

The albums first two tunes were both sampled for "California Love", namely Ronnie Hudson’s "West Coast Poplock" and Joe Cocker’s "Woman To Woman". Emotional ballades strike a chord with 80s classic "Broken Wings" by Mr Mister and Bobby Caldwell’s "What You Won’t Do For Love".

Pure soul and funk comes from the smooth Sly & The Family Sloane’s "Sing A Simple Song" sampled in Pac’s "Temptations".  Two vintage James Brown releases follow with "Blind Man Can’t See" and "The Spank" (both lifted for "Trapped").

Other idols picked out include Elton John and Quincy Jones, alongside more vocal delights from Linda Clifford, Dennis Edwards and Minnie Ripperton (as also pinched more recently for Jean Jacques Smoothie’s "2 People").

For Tupac fans and casual listeners alike, this is an impeccable selection of music and an incredible insight into what inspired a timeless legend.
