Heat UK DVD - From The Backyard To South West Four
Released September 2005
Who would have thought that one of London’s most successful club promoters, Heat Events, started life completely by accident? Damian Gelle and Anton Marmot, the two figures behind the mammoth parties that have seen them sell out pretty much every major venue in London including the mega South West Four Festival at Clapham Common (now in it’s second year), arrived in London from Australia as backpackers and never in their wildest dreams did they imagine they’d be running London’s largest outdoor dance event.
Heat UK (From The Backyard To South West Four) DVD describes in full how the Heat Event team started off as a backyard house party in the promoters back yard, Anton and Damien had an amazingly successful formula that they took with them initially to the Rock in London where they held a 7 month sell out residency (which started off on a Saturday afternoon!), before moving on to the world renown Turnmills and an awesome sell-out gig at Camden Palace which saw queues stretching right around the block.
As well as the London club events and the massive South West Four festival (now officially London’s largest outdoor event), Heat Events (in conjunction with radicalescapes.com) have been organising regular clubbing holidays to Ibiza and Amsterdam, as well as putting on events in Japan and Thailand at the legendary Full Moon Parties, making Heat a truly international clubbing brand.
Returning to their unique house party formula on their first birthday was definitely a nice touch! Hundreds of ravers on a sunny afternoon, all going mental to hard house and trance at their London terraced home. The neighbours, police and even the environmental health officers were all left stunned.
Originally named after Damian's favourite De Niro film "Heat", the boys used the Hazardous / Flammable Materials sign as their logo and they were set to go. Marc French joined shortly afterwards as premier resident and full-time Graphic Designer & Media Manager in the Heat HQ office.
Next up was the impressive Brixton Academy for New Years Eve, a venue already played host to legends like Madonna and The Rolling Stones. For this one however it was all at risk, the lads had to re-mortgage their house "have I fucked up?" Damian recalls asking himself... The New Year's revellers certainly didn't think so! They arrived in their thousands. What's more is all this within the space of 18 months!
An opening slot at Cream Amnesia arose for a certain Heat resident, in steps DJ Ian Betts. Playing alongside the world #3 Armin Van Buuren, Ian rocked the building like there was no tomorrow and didn't stop buzzing about it for days.
Other novelty promotions conceived by Heat Events include Evolution; an oldskool night from '98 to present with a difference and Starfucker, named due to the only payers being those on the guest-list! Very clever, and amusing!
Just 3 years on from the initial house parties, here they were planning a 10,000 people capacity event at Clapham Common, South West Four was born. With the traditional English weather they stood to lose £150k! Come day-break and the Heat Events prayers were answered. The sun was shinning and all goes without a storm (in every sense), the event was also broadcast live on MTV by Erick Morillo with other sets from Tall Paul, K90 and DJ Sasha (who immediately demanded to play again next year)!
An excellent digital snapshot of a modern day rave culture promotion phenomenon. As friends of Clubbing UK, the success couldn't of happened to a nicer bunch. Heat Events : A Force To Be Partied With!
