Krafty Kuts - Freakshow

Krafty Kuts - Freakshow image

Released 9th October 2006

"Freakshow" boasts an impressive list of collaborators, including Dynamite MC, Tim Deluxe, Dr Luke, Theo, Bespoke and it perfectly showcases Krafty’s passion for pyretic party music in all its forms, from juicy disco breakz, to old skool electro and hip-hop.

Krafty Kuts’ career began in a humble Brighton record store, where he gained his encyclopaedic knowledge of hip-hop and funk, supplying records to the likes of Fatboy Slim (who’s now enlisted Mr Kuts’ remix skills on the forth-coming single "Champion Sound").

"This LP is a more mature sound for me," explains Krafty aka Martin Reeves. "It’s organically funky, taking all my musical influences such as latin, hip-hop, funk, disco and electro and creating a modern flavour with its roots in breakbeat."

In a career spaning over a decade Martin has released a slew of hit singles, including "Tricka Technology", "Gimme The Funk" and "Ill Type Sound", and, with "Bass Phenomenon" already garnering the support from Radio 1 jocks Zane Lowe, Annie Mac and Pete Tong, the scene is set for his eagerly anticipated debut artist album.

It drops with a James Brown-esque intro blending turntablist skits with whole hosts of other genres. Dubby breaks on the pole positioned title track "Freakshow" featuring Ashley Slater leads on to the bass-heavy sounds of Dynamite MC first of two collabs. First up is "We Do This" that cleverly samples Nivarna’s "Rainbow Chaser" in this audible pot of gold.

Upping the pace and melodies, TURN IT UP for the vocal delights of "Tell Me How You Feel" and the fabulous "The Funk Is", retro pumping beats, timeless piano and groovy gentle chords all the way. The fluffy beats continue on the 70s flavoured "Bring Back The Funk" cruising onto an eclectic ending, rounding things up on "Summer Samba" and "Flamenco Freddy".

"I now feel that after fifteen years I’m at a point musically where my studio work is as strong as my DJ profile has grown to be," Martin adds. We couldn’t agree more.

A surprisingly refreshing electric breaks album, loads of sounds combined into one Kraftily Kut "Freakshow" of an album.
