Martin Solveig - Jealousy

Martin Solveig - Jealousy image

Released 30th January 2006

Martin Solveig gets green with envy and delivers his next single, the super funky, and 80’s inspired, pop song "Jealousy". The new single is taken from Solveig’s second album "Hedonist". "The funny thing is that when I was very young I was singing in a school boy choir, which is a long way from where I am now" says Martin.

How true that is, from his humble beginnings as a choir boy Martin Solveig has become a famous name in his native France and has now built up his notoriety substantially here in the UK. Martin is known as one of the hardest working young artists on the international music scene and at 27 years old he tirelessly continues to travel the world to perform to his fans - even if sometimes he does complain of being justifiably exhausted. His previous works have made a big impact on our music scene with his first single "Rocking Music" achieving top 40 status, followed quickly by his most recent release "Everybody", a fast paced rock meets dance crossover which narrowly skimmed the top 20. He now revisits us with his next single "Jealousy" tipped to be an even bigger success.

It features the vocals of Elmer ‘Lee’ Fields, a fifty five year-old bluesman who brings his special madness and a James Brown esque fell to this inimitable track. Solveig has a talent for playing music that is not meant to be traditionally heard in DJ sets "I really like the idea of taking a track that is not exactly adapted to a dance floor and changing it a bit or editing it so that I could play it during my set". He does this in an extraordinary fashion picking obscure tracks and editing them for his own use. For anyone watching him DJ he cuts in tracks that no other DJ would dare to play in their sets, expertly blending them and using all manner of rare accapella and samples.

Martin is inspired by many different genres of music. He says: "through my song writing and music production, I started to have interest in different kinds of music so now I’m starting to produce Funk and R&B more seriously. I’ve learned how to make and produce those types of songs through my DJing". This is very evident with Jealousy being a powerful cocktail of electrifying house, disco and funk which fits as perfectly on the dance floor as it would on your favourite radio station.

With "Jealousy", Martin further exploits his passion for Disco with a Nile Rogers and Junior Jack inspired intro and bass line. Adding to this there is a definite 80’s feel with more than a few references to early Prince "Prince was a great influence of mine" Martin admits. The track features a female chorus hook by Stephy Haïk which compliments the powerful blues and soul sounding voice of Fields that delivers this as another instant and simply unique single.

Martin Solveig is also currently promoting his second album "Hedonism", also currently out on Defected, which really displays the different musical aspects of this new artist. When quizzed on what inspired him to title the album he says: "It’s mainly to do with my state of mind while I was working on the project. I had a lot of fun and didn’t think about things too much. I’d always wanted to be eclectic, to condense all the pleasure that music brings me and share it. Then the album probably has a slight flavour of the 60s and 70s, which have always embodied a certain freedom for me, a child of the 80s, the economic crisis, the condom generation… Then I’m into wine, parties and low necklines, so I feel quite in tune with the title".

Multiply by 10 the energy, funk and down right commercial appeal of Solveig’s "Everybody" and you’re half way to seeing how powerful the new single "Jealousy" is… It'll be available on CD Single, 2x12" and Digital Download.
