Freestylers PhotoWe catch up with Matt Cantor, one half of the Freestylers just as he's jetting out to Asia with Brighton's Boutique Asia Tour 2003.  A quick pit-stop chat on route to the air port to find out how he was feeling about the trip, it all culminates on Sunday 12th October with a live webcast from Tokyo to London with the possibility of going via their night in Brighton...

How did you come to form part of the Freestylers?
"The Freestylers were formed seven years ago when I met Aston working at the same studio….. we decided to make some tunes together."

Haven't you been busy releasing an album?
"The album is not actually out until next year…… It’s taken this long to get everything in place?"

What’s your favourite tune off the album & why?
"Favourite tune of the album is 'Boomblast' because it features 'Million Dan' and its Ragga-Electro."

Will you be playing any of the new stuff on your Boutique tour of Asia?
"I’ve got all the new stuff on Acetate so they will all be getting a full rinse!"

How do you feel about being invited along?
"I’m chuffed to be invited along…I love Asia It’s always an adventure."

Have you heard reports from other artists who’ve played in these destinations, if so what were they like?
"I’ve played Zouk befoe and liquid rooms but there are quite a few places I haven’t played at….. looking forward to it."

Are you nervous or worried about anything on the trip?
"I’ll probably get a bit homesick."

What do you think the major difference will be playing out there?
"People go bonkers out there!"

Which has been the best crowd so far?
"Australia"

Any countries left you haven’t visited yet you’d really like to?
"I’d love to visit Brazil"

When did you first play for the Boutique & how was your first time?
"Did the Boutique when it was at the Concorde with the band….. I was MC'ing.  We were awful!"

What do you think separates The Boutique from the other clubs and promoters out there?
"The Boutique survived the Big Beat fallout!"

What 3 emergency things would you need on tour?
"Chilli sauce, a good book… my phone"

Have you any advice for budding DJ’s?
"Keep at it."

Aside from your current tour, where else can we catch you this year?
"Nottingham Fire Fly!"

Any plans for New Years Eve yet? 
"New Years Eve in Australia!"
