Mighty Dub Katz - Guaguanco

Southern Fried Records celebrate their 100th release with the Hispanic flavoured "Guaguanco" by the Mighty Dub Katz aka Fatboy Slim (Norman Cook).

Norm first started using the Dub Katz alias back in the early 90s, roughly around the same time Southern Fried was created to publish some his own alternative tracks.

The first few productions reached levels of underground notoriety with "Keep On Truckin", "Super Disco Brakes Vol I", "It’s Just Another Groove", "Magic Carpet Ride" and many more.

After a few high-profile compilation appearances on true vintage mixes like "Fantazia - British Anthems", "House Classics Vol 2", "Rave Master Mixers" the pace was set for the Mighty Dub Katz the productions kept on coming.

1997 witnessed one of the labels biggest smashes to date with "Let The Drums Speak", also by the Katz, soon after this label A&R staff picked up on disco phenomenon and Fatboy protégé that is Space Cowboy! His releases "Crazy Talk" and "Just Put Your Hand In Mine" proved that this was no one-trick pony..

Many moons on and things are still going strong at Southern Fried. In this their centenary release the Mighty Dub Katz use some chic Latino "La, la, la" and treble fuelled tribal, all mixed with catchy horn riffs and punchy beats to make a intriguing mixture.

Cosmos aka Tom Middleton delivers a dastardly duo of reworks including a dub mix. He heads deeper whilst still managing to funk things up a treat, building things for big drops by upping texture of chords.

The main "Ashley Beedles’s Heavy Disco Remix" holds back slightly on the vocals, tweaking beats and breaks cleverly. Using the original jazzy tones and quaint strings Beedle nicely realigns emphasis of the groove.
