Ministry of Sound Red Sea Review

To kick things off in a Euro-friendly style, we started out in Hurghada’s
Papas Bar –
an Anglo-Dutch owned bar stylised in a Café brown-esque flavour.
Catering for a predominantly English and European mix of clientele they also
have Papas II in the downtown area and the soon-to-be Papas Tavern in the more
renowned Sharm El Sheikh.
After a few cool bevies with the highly personable Papas manager Mr Marcus, we
head down to the Ministry of Sound Bar.
Situated beach-side of the Red Sea, a palm-tree clad road pulls punters towards
its subtle entrance. With the biggest bar in the city and the first pool table
I’ve ever witnessed inside a MoS venue, the incredible layout and décor draws
you towards the glass doors leading onto their private beach. With an array of
cushioned seating areas, including curtained off raised and sunken boudoirs this
swish and swanky hotspot will be transformed into the world’s first Hed Kandi
Bar at the beginning of April!
A funky house warm-up set is delivered by the dedicated and talented MoS Egypt
residents Joshua Roberts and DJ Mojo, after a brief meet and greet, we continue,
in a Pete Tong style, to the MoS Beach Club.
The arrival is a little less spectacular at present, with a MoS banner draped
over a building’s concrete frame – a MoS hotel in-the-making (and another world
exclusive) we’re surprised to learn.
Once inside and past the friendly security, it’s not uncommon to see people
walking around, as we did, with jaws open wide at the beauty and elegance of
this venue.

Tonight is host to special-guest DJ Billy ‘Daniel’ Bunter for the Funky House
Sessions and his-own world-exclusive Funky House set. I had raised-eyebrows too
at first.
Brits Joshua and Jay Stone both do an admirable job dropping the latest
selection of groove-fuelled house music. Josh, occasionally grabbing the MIC, in
a Judge Jules-stylee, commands instant reactions from the floor.
Oldskool legend and cutting-edge producer, Billy Bunter takes to the decks and
swiftly removes any elements of doubts from our minds. Seamlessly switching
genres from funky chunky to the more electro side of the spectrum, he
has the dancefloor rammed from start to finish.
Head of Music at Ministry Red Sea and top Egyptian DJ, Malak, takes the reins
building the crowd into an almighty frenzy. His choice choons grabbing the
biggest reaction include Mason vs Princess Superstar "Perfect"
and the fantastic
"Party All The Time" by Sharam, both on Data Records (London).
Needless to say, this won’t be our last visit, or the last you’ll hear of
Hurghada’s bubbling nightlife scene. An amazing event, in an inspiring city,
with a simply stunning venue and great atmosphere – I can’t believe I’ve not
heard of this place before 2007!
Ministry of Sound Egypt is without a doubt a must for international clubbers everywhere. Book up now and tell them Owen @ Clubbing UK sent you!
