Addictive TV - Mixmasters on ITV1

Continued from Addictive TV

Addictive TV was formed in 1992 by Graham Daniels and Nick Clarke. They make television shows, visuals for clubs and festivals and have launched their own DVD label, producing and releasing titles by VJs, DJs, visual artists and music producers. They're currently working on a third series of Mixmasters, their ITV1 show which features exclusive DJ mixes fused with visual mixes from top VJs and visual crews from around the world.

Their portfolio includes work for the likes of Channel 4, ITV, Sci-Fi Channel, BT, Wella Shockwaves, Revlon and The Cheltenham International Music Festival. As VJs, they've mixed live visual sets alongside DJs and artists including Howie B, Blue States, Derrick May, Fatboy Slim, Pete Tong, Carl Craig and 808 State. They've played at festivals such as Glastonbury, Reading, Homelands, The Love Parade (Berlin), MixMove (Paris), NetDays (Brussels), Les Rendez-Vous Electroniques (Paris) and recently at Club Yellow (Tokyo). They've had a VJ residency at London nightclub Turnmills - courtesy of AV residents Reality Check - and now run their own night ‘The Audiovisual Lounge’ in association with Cinefeel at Below 54 in Shoreditch, East London. The Audiovisual Lounge was recently listed at number three in The Guardian Guide's top five 'Try This!' club guide.  They also run the night periodically at the Web Bar in Paris.

In 1999 they formed a VJ-based label - the world's first - releasing audiovisual mixes on DVD format. As well as their own material, projects have included original work by the likes of 808 State, Coldcut, Quantic and American VJ pioneer Brian Kane from EBN (Emergency Broadcast Network). ‘Transambient’, their 1998/99 'ambient television' programme for Channel 4, was the first series of its kind. It comprised long-form audiovisual tracks of specially written electronic music integrated with a mixture of CGI, originally shot and sampled footage. Heat Magazine described it as 'the best use of that screen in the corner of your sitting room'. July 2000 saw ‘Transambient’ released as the first audiovisual DVD album, which ZDNet called 'digital perfection', DJ Magazine said it was ‘the ultimate chill-out experience’ and The Big Issue described it as ‘proper 21st century entertainment’.

Their second DVD project "Spaced Out" was released the following summer.  DJ Magazine said it was "2001's best reason to buy a DVD player".  Also in 2001 they signed with major US electronic label Moonshine to put out their DVDs stateside.

Their work has also been screened at festivals including Sonar (Barcelona), The New Zealand International Film Festival, The Edinburgh Festival, The Karlovy Vary Film Festival (Czech Republic), The Nemo Festival (Paris), The Electrofringe (Australia), The Microwave International Media Festival (Hong Kong), the cinema tents at Homelands (UK), Reading & Leeds festivals (UK) and at Cybersonica '02 at The ICA (London) where they also curated the three-day festival's cinema programme. Also in 2002, Addictive TV's Graham Daniels gave talks about VJing and visualising music at the B.Digital Visions Festival (Berlin), Digital Arts World at Olympia (London), MusicWorks (Glasgow), Central St. Martin's School of Art & Design (London) and in Paris, as part of Les Rendez-Vous Electroniques festival, Addictive TV hosted a special screening of their work at the George Pompidou Centre.

Events and dates in 2003 have so far included an audiovisual head-to-head with Howie B at Club Yellow in Tokyo, a live AV collaboration with Tipper (Fuel Records) and Chris Carter (TCR) in Budapest (Hungary) and a VJ performance at AVIT USA in Chicago, the US’s first major conference and festival for VJs.
