Muzik Magazine Dance Awards 2002

Muzik Magazine Dance Awards 2002 image

On Tuesday 15th October London's Po Na Na venue was over run by Dance Music Personnel.  From DJs and artists to promoters and club owners, A&R agents and PR people to Models and Actors, everyone was there to see what the public had voted their number 1's and of course to witness Carl Cox & Eric Morillo tear it up at the after show party.

The night was hosted by T4's Vernon Kay and June Sarpong, if you're thinking who the ...?  So was I, he's the one with the dark 70 #'s scruffy hair look and stands about 6.5' tall and she's the little one who looks like she's just returned from a heavy season in Ibiza.

Amongst the dinning guests we spotted Zoe and Norm, Sara and Jon, Seb Fontaine, Darren Emerson, Tim Deluxe and the delicious Sam Obernik, Giles Peterson, Pete Tong, Alex P and Brandon running a mock, Midfield General, Dave Beer (toking on a funny looking cigarette), Lottie, Basil (Barcardi BBar), the X Press 2 boys, Felix from Basement Jaxx, John Digweed and Robert Carlisle of all people!

Not that we were star-spotting of course.  We, well er I, was busy checking out the Shark girls - damn they were hot; picture (gentlemen) if you will, 4 stunners wearing heals, tight belts and short Shark tops revealing everything! I'd of downed anything for them!

Robert Carlisle, Zoe Cook (Mrs Slim) and previous Bedroom Bedlam winner James Zabeilia were among the names giving out the awards, briefing us on the nominees were the Cuban Brothers via a 'satallite link' getting up to crazy antics whilst doing the announcements.  The most memorable one was when they were polishing a car with their arses in skimpy leotards, nice!

Felix from Basement Jaxx was grinning widely clutching three more awards for the duo, we asked him What's the secret?  "We just try and do something we believe in, and do some music that hopefully moves, motivates and refreshes people."

We partied on till 3am managing to sneak in the odd boom spliff, we did see the security searching assorted guests near the toilets, this undoubtedly ruffled a few feathers but with Coxy & Morillo behind the decks it was all good.  The pair played Back 2 Back and delivered a set of Funky, Jack'in, Tech-House that kept you gripped to the dance floor.  Some of the tunes they played were the new 'Good Life' remix and an Instrumental of 'Shakedown' by Carl Cox and Shinny Disco Balls and Tim Deluxe's award winning 'It Just Won't Do' were both dropped by Eric Morillo.

We met up with XFM competition winners Caroline and Matthew (we think), who brought over a merry Alex P for a quick chat and photo opportunity so a big thank you to them.  Also our extended thanks to Sainted & Anglo for all your help on the night!
