SHOCKWAVES NME AWARDS SHOWS 2006….TAKE OVER LONDON

Launching into the stratosphere on Friday 10th February at London’s KOKO club, this years’ ShockWaves NME Awards Shows will see the hottest bands around transport music fans into a whole new ecstatic dimension. Taking over London’s best music venues for fifteen days of non-stop music the Shows finally touch down at the Hammersmith Apollo on Friday 24th February.
This year’s series of shows will be the biggest and best ever, combining a stellar array of star turns with the very best in ‘must see’ new talent.
The first seven headline acts to be announced are Brooklyn-based newcomers Clap Your Hands Say Yeah (KOKO, Friday 10th February), returning Liverpool legends The Zutons (KOKO, Tuesday 14th February), the awesome Magic Numbers (Carling Academy Brixton, Thursday 16th February), New York’s kings of cool The Strokes (Hammersmith Apollo, Friday 17th and Saturday 18th February), hotly-tipped Scots Biffy Clyro (KOKO, Monday February 20th), exciting new UK stars Editors (Astoria, Wednesday 22nd February) and rising rockers Nine Black Alps (Hammersmith Palais, Friday 24th February).
Following on from the previously announced ShockWaves NME Awards Tour and leading up to the infamously debauched Awards ceremony itself on 23rd February at Hammersmith Palais, these ShockWaves NME Awards Shows will give serious music fans the chance to grab a piece of infamous NME rock ‘n’ roll action!
NME editor Conor McNicholas said: "The ShockWaves NME Awards Shows have a hard-earned reputation for showcasing the very best in both new and established music talent, but this year we’ve managed to surpass even our own high standards. The full line-up reads like a fantastic festival bill, but without the mud. Frankly, I can’t wait!"
More shows will be announced over the next two weeks to fill out the full fortnight of frenetic musical mayhem.
All the action is leading up to The ShockWaves NME Awards 2006 on February 23rd at London’s Hammersmith Palais. The most rock and roll event of the year will see a host of rock glitterati celebrating one of the most exciting years in music. VOTE ONLINE AT www.nme.com/awards
