Pacha Ibiza - Winter Sessions Vol 4

Pacha Ibiza - Winter Sessions Vol 4 image

Released February/March 2006

Pacha Ibiza have joined forces with Def Mix to bring you the perfect winter warmer with an inspiring collection mixed by DJs Hector Romero and Juan Diaz. Proving Ibiza’s visitor numbers aren’t the only thing to drop out of season.

"When I was originally approached by Danny Whittle at Pacha to mix Disc One of the Pacha Ibiza Winter Sessions Vol 4 album I felt flattered and honoured." enthuses Hector, who is part of one of the most highly acclaimed DJ rosters in the world. Hector Romero joined Def Mix in 2000 and being the youngest of the crew, Hector brings a fresh take on music to the company.

Romero elaborates "They respect me for my energy and for being different from everyone else", whether he’s rocking it out Pacha, Ibiza or in Greece, UK, France, Spain, Italy, USA or Canada, Hector works his craft, making sure clubbers have a good time. What sets Romero apart from the rest is his ability to reach out to the masses, which makes him a favourite with promoters and clubbers alike. By pushing the boundaries of music, H is quickly becoming the face of the future.

His Pacha Ibiza residency now stretches five years on every Saturday with the mighty Def Mix and uber cool Saw Recordings (owned by Satoshi Tomiie).

The second mix brings to the decks Juan Diaz, who is known for his deep, sexy house with a tough edge. He controls the dancefloor wherever he plays with a relentless groove that locks you in and takes with it.

Juan began DJing in his native Catalonia way back in ’88, aged only 15. After regularly playing throughout Spain he gained his first residency at Pacha Pineda (Tarragona City) in 2000, playing weekly to a crowd of 5,000 people. In the same year, Diaz gained his first guest spot at Pacha Ibiza and joined the club’s DJ agency and their PachaFutura team. After having built his name and reputation on the Spanish house scene, Diaz took his sound onto an international level. He now plays regularly in Holland, Portugal, Malaysia, America and Italy. This summer (2005) Diaz was resident for Erick Morillo’s Subliminal Sessions (Pacha Ibiza), playing alongside Morillo, Jose Nunez and many others. He currently holds a respected weekly residency at Catwalk (Barcelona) and a monthly residency in Pacha Ibiza.

In 2003, Diaz mixed Volume 4’s predecessor (+1), "Pacha Ibiza Winter Sessions - Vol 2" and was also nominated "Best Spanish DJ" at the Miami Winter Music Conference and in 2004 he won the Prestige Award for "Best House DJ" in Barcelona.

Hector Romero unleashes his mix on disc one with the amusingly titled "I Heard You Were Dead" Rob Mello’s turntable rocker "No Ears Mix" of course. This is blended into the classic "That Piano Track" by BushIIBush (playing alongside H at the SAW Miami this year).

An injection of vocals comes courtesy of Soul Mekanik’s "No More Conversations" and the original of "Watching You" by Tiny Stikz. Lengthy mixes chopped and changed faster than you can say… "wicked mix man".

Things get a little more militant with Lee Cabrera’s mix of "Sword Fight" by Lower East Side. Spicing things up is the Latin sounds of The Cube Guys "Te Queiro" (the new Intrallazzi & Provera Miami Mix)… Right before the dirty electro beats of "Rock Face" by OK Rocks simmers to the inquisitive tones of The Funk Ensembles "Moondancing", rounding off mix numero uno nicely.

Juan Diaz "goes back to Africa" to start with tribal sounds from Marlon D, effortlessly cut into the equally international, uplifting hands-up tune; "Alright" by Red Carpet. Martin Ten Velden & Lucien Foort bump things up Dutch stylee before the sexy "Je Suis Ta Drogue" by the UK’s Grant Nelson.

From a hectic few tracks stems the blissful chords of "Babylon (Into A Groove)" by Nu Rhythmix, the pure disco grooves create cries of "turn it up" (and that’s just within the office)!

Tumping it up for the last few Nick & Danny Chatelain’s "It’s Killing Me" blasts bass first through to Erick Morillo’s remix of "Father" and Juan’s own "Free", a deep and tribal trip if ever I heard one. Finishing on a superb vocal stormer by Dajae entitled "Brighter Day", this time legends Haji & Emmanuel on the reshuffle.

A fantastic compilation from four giants on the global house circuit, Pacha Ibiza and Def Mix gel like long lost amigos, whereas Romero & Diaz just party like new ones.
