Renaissance - The Classics Part 2

Renaissance - The Classics Part 2 image

Released 3rd July 2006

This summer Renaissance return with "The Classics Pt 2", the second instalment in the series which began last year with a bang, selling in excess of 225,000 copies.  Often such compilations are a quickly slung together batch of tired old tracks, but not so with the Classics Pt.2 - a three disc set that manages to mix 50 era-defining tracks. The result is an album rich in their renowned attention to detail and musical heritage.

From the opening piano riff on Paul Simpson’s (feat Adeva) "Musical Freedom", disc 1 instantly takes the listener on a journey through the days when house was all about the good times, when gospel-infused vocals glided over hypnotic synths, making nightclubs the new churches of the weekend. Other gems include "You Got The Love", by The Source feat Candi Staton, Inner City’s "Big Fun" and Crystal Waters’ "Gypsy Woman".

Disc 2’s track selection delves deeper by bringing together rare underground anthems which have long been unobtainable (but not forgotten).  They provide a snapshot of how the early Chicago and New York sounds inspired the rest of the world, effortlessly segueing Italo house, early trance and acid house to bring back the euphoric highs of memories past. Key tracks include Sabrina Johnson’s "Peace In The Valley".

Sunscreem’s ‘Perfect Motion’ and Billie Ray Martin’s ‘Your Loving Arms’. Finally, with Disc 3, Renaissance provides a timely reminder of an eclectic heyday when music had no boundaries. From Primal Scream’s acid dub inspired "Come Together" to The Jacksons Sisters’ soul classic "I Believe In Miracles", the CD highlights Renaissance’s efforts to please even the most discerning of listeners.

Of course, the luxury packaging of Renaissance The Classics Pt.2 reflects the music with neo classical imagery amid a rainbow of colour. The message is clear - these are vital songs that refuse to die.
