Residency One - Jon O'Bir

Released 1st May 2006
Baroque Records launch their new Residency series, which is going to feature mixes from the world’s hottest resident DJs, trance superkid Jon O’Bir will kick-start the series.
Jon is single headedly creating the nu-breed of trance with his progressive yet uplifting sound and has been going from strength to strength over the past few years since winning the M8 magazine DJ competition. He is resident at super club Godskitchen, has had an mixes aired on Fergie’s, Pete Tong’s and Judge Jules’ Radio One shows, Plus his highly acclaimed Essential Mix which led to his very own series of Radio 1 shows, as part of their Radio One Residency program … there just seems to be no stopping him.
As well as his residency at Godskitchen Jon also plays at every major club and festival you could care to mention. And with gigs at such far flung countries as Hong Kong, Cyprus & the USA his legion of fans are now growing internationally as well as on a national scale.
In terms of his own productions, Jon has collaborated with similarly impressive upstart Gareth Emery (GTR) and his favourite producer, Airwave, on a track titled Promise (featured exclusively on this mix), and to top it all off Jon has his own successful record label ‘Conspiracy Recordings’.
Jon is seen as the champion of the current trance sound, so what a better way to start off this series. And if this mix is anything to go by Baroque will be seeing a fair few more stunning mixes down the line of their Residency series…
Opening "Residency One" is the beautiful vocal trancer titled "Amsterdam" by Luminary - also, by coincidence sharing the same name of an Oakenfold tune on his new album.
Laser grabbing melodies take hold from "Rejections" by David West, and the Algarve Remix of "Secret Staircase" by Sebastian Brandt presents Genua. These are followed by the digitalised strings on Jon’s own collaboration with Airwave, "Promise", and the not-to-be-mistaken, Airbase’s great "Escape".
Tougher psytrance continues with Aira Force "No One Knows" and the smoking Purple Haze’s magical "Eden", keeping a rhythmic feel throughout the whole compilation. He ends on the trancey keys of a hidden album gem, Gareth Emery & Jon O’Bir - "No Way Back"… although the rewind option does seems an appealing contradiction.
The Godskitchen, M8 and Radio 1 DJ protégée can’t seem to attract much more media hype and attention if he tried! Whatever next? An interview with Clubbing UK I hear you cry... we’ll see what we can do.
