The Other Side London - Mixed by Damian Lazarus

Released 24th July 2006
Resist Music and the world famous travel and leisure media outlet Time Out, team up for The Other Side series’ third release. A uniquely interactive dual-sided CD/DVD that features mixed sets from exclusive artists with a city guide of the arts and entertainment on the flip. Each edition delves into the city of choice with eclectic audio and unusual visuals providing a fascinating insight into each environment.
The compilations kicked off with the Fischerspooner boys in New York City, before jetting into Europe to sample the delights of Paris courtesy of Black Strobe. Now The Other Side London gets the undivided attention on underground DJ and electronic guru, Damian Lazarus.
A born and bred Londoner, Damian Lazarus has played a key part in developing the electronic dance movement in London and beyond. Having co-founded the legendary City Rockers imprint, he has gone on to create Crosstown Rebels, a cutting edge label, famous for pushing the boundaries of electronic music. As a DJ, Lazarus can be found entertaining the globe's more hedonistic dancefloors, but for the Other Side, he takes a more ‘home listening’ approach.
Boom Bip features Gruff Rhys "Do’s and Don’ts" opens before Nathan Fake’s "Grand Fathered", best described in his own words: "quite melodic and quite noisy in places". The British Bhangra beats of Ty’s "So You Want More?" refix sees the legendary Roots Manuva delve into some harmonic breaks of Point B… Some retro and funk tinged Drum & Bass comes in from Squarepusher’s "My Red Hot Car", with the superb lyric "I’m gonna f*ck you with my red hot car"! Lazarus finally punks it up with a couple of cheeky edits from Kose and Mogwai on the remix.
The DVD includes the local trading empires of Spitalfields Indoor Market, Bricklane Street Market and Camden’s multicultural marketplace, all set to an intelligent D&B theme tune. British beat-boxer Killa Kella busts out some delights whilst presenting a tour of London’s renowned Kew Gardens. Not to mention the saucy Soho sex shops and a selection of the city’s hottest shops, bars, restaurants, clubs, hotels and more.
With Time Out constantly aiming to remain at the forefront, they’re inviting participants to join The Other Side online community at the website below to upload their own favourite haunts.
