SINGER ESTELLE CALLS
OUT TO RAW TALENT
FOR THE PRINCE’S TRUST URBAN MUSIC FESTIVAL 2005

Urban music talent from across the UK is being invited to perform at a series of
regional Up & Coming Talent Nights, with the winners performing live on-stage at
The Prince’s Trust Urban Music Festival 2005.
In the lead up to the Festival next April, the youth charity which helps young
people get their lives working, is teaming up with Liquid State, The Jump Off
and Urban Voice to stage six regional Prince’s Trust Up & Coming Talent Nights
in Birmingham, Brighton, Bristol, Glasgow, London and Manchester. Up and coming
artists, MC’s, music producers and Streetdance crews will perform for judges
from the UK’s music industry, with the winners performing live on-stage at the
Festival at Earls Court, London, on 16 and 17 April 2005.
Singer Estelle, who has recently become an Ambassador for The Prince’s Trust, is
supporting the Up & Coming Talent Nights and working with The Trust to encourage
young people in the UK to enter the regional events. She says: "I am really
happy to be an Ambassador for The Prince's Trust and help a charity that is
making a conscious effort to use the power of urban music to inspire and
motivate more young people in the UK. There is an abundance of talent in every
young person and many don't realise how The Trust can help them to nurture this.
I would recommend that young people across the UK find out how The Trust can
help them - they might be surprised!"
The inaugural Prince’s Trust Urban Music Festival in May 2004 was the largest
urban music event the UK has ever seen. The weekend event showcased top UK and
US hip hop and R&B acts including Jay-Z, Jamelia, Beyonce, Alicia Keys, The
Streets, Amy Winehouse Roots Manuva, Dizzee Rascal, Lemar and Mos Def.
As part of last year’s Festival, The Prince’s Trust ran the Up & Coming Talent
Nights in London, with the winners performing at the Festival, nurturing a whole
new generation of young talent. The Festival also featured over 50 workshops,
zones and businesses from urban clothing to music magazines. At the workshops,
the urban industry’s leading players, including artists such as Roots Manuva and
Rock Steady Crew’s Crazy Legs, gave practical advice on everything from MC-ing
and music production to B-Boying and Beatboxing. The Battle Stage in the main
arena gave a platform to the best B-Boys, MC’s and music producers in the UK.
The Prince’s Trust Up & Coming Talent Nights will be held between February and
April 2005. Demos from individual urban acts and bands need to be in by Friday 4
February 2005. Contact details and more info for aspiring MC's, music producers
and Streetdance Crews is on
