Tidy Weekender 4 Review

Tidy Weekender 4 Review image

Prestatyn, Wales - 10-12th October 2003

The Tidy Weekender 4 went off with a bang…well, actually it was more like a number of bangs, since one went off to signal the start of several stompin’ sets.

With a line-up bigger than Geri’s boob job (come on, we all know she’s had it done), it was easy to see why multicoloured clubbers from across the galaxy had chosen Prestatyn as their weekend winter getaway.

Tidy Weekender 4 sold out in less than three weeks of going on sale, so the place was packed out, as those who missed out on a chalet opted for the equally in-demand day passes.

Friday’s fun kicked off in the main arena at 9.30pm with Steve Hill. Let’s face it, with the world’s hardest event fired-up to rocket the harder generation into hard house hedonism, there were never going to be any warm-up sets. The DJs were red hot.

The official welcome came from the Tidy Boys at midnight when they appeared on stage amid a frenzy of fast music, fluorescent dancers and frenetic applause. Cybered-up (Amadeus had opted for a very fetching fluffy skirt), the Tidy Boys were more than ready to send seismic sound waves through the dance floor. Their bouncy set gradually took on a harder edge which diced up our dance moves and had our feet pummelling the ground.

We rode the vibe into the second arena where Lisa Pin Up was catalysing an explosive reaction. Meanwhile, in the curtained-off room next door, a chunky funky beat was drumming through the base speakers, no doubt loosening molars in the mouths of many gurning faces.

As the weekender progressed, the music, the atmosphere and our spirits, soared higher and higher...  Saturday was the best night for me because not only were we treated to the traditional, and oh so popular Tidy Boys Vs Tidy Girls set, we also had the choice of a hardcore room, featuring the likes of Kevin Energy, Scott Brown and Brisk. I’m sure the line-up speaks for itself. To say we were hot when we surfaced from that arena would be an understatement.

Daytime activities included football wind up/karaoke…oops, I slept over and missed that one, and ‘Rainbow Live’, to take us back to our tainted childhoods!?  On Sunday there was also a chance to get our T-Shirts, posters, CD covers and even boobs signed by our fave DJs!

Paul Maddox closed the frantic antics on Sunday night with a stormin’ set. But to be honest, the calibre of the DJs right across the three day bender blew us away.

Rachel Auburn, Jez & Charlie, Shan, K90, Lab 4, BK and Rob Tissera, to name but a few, mixed it up in their own ways, whipping us into a frenzy. Eddie Halliwell made his trademark outstanding contribution. Jaws were on the floor as we watched a close-up of his hands mastering the decks on the large screens positioned either side of the DJ booth.

The shenanigans ended with a ‘Kick It’ Tidy track in the small hours of Sunday morning. The main arena was buzzing and the temperature resembled a hot summer in Ibiza. This was the holiday we’d been waiting for all year, and we’ll be waiting eagerly again ‘til Tidy's next weekend of extraordinary largeness.
