Vapour - The World Today

Released January 2006
Verbally Accurate Purely Original Urban Rap - Vapour drops his debut single "The World Today" in January 2006.
"The World Today" is an orchestral backed epic: a heavy bassline lumbers into the listener’s consciousness over which Vapour spits an acute account of the hypocrisy and absurdity of both the world we live in and the way information is presented to us... With news-real samples of the Tsunami and 9/11 opening the track, a serious subject matter is inevitable. Some simple bassy beats, but powerful and tight lyrics for some thought-provoking images of the often 'cold' world in which we live.
"I wrote the track after I’d been sat watching telly with my girlfriend one night," Vapour explains. "It was earlier this year and images of the tsunami’s aftermath were everywhere. I mean, these pictures were terrible but all I wanted to do was turn over and watch something else - which is wrong, but made me think. How are we supposed to digest this information when we’re being told terrible news which is then followed by a lottery winner and it’s all smiles?"
Vapour, aka Martin Taylor, first surfaced on the garage and drum & bass scene five years ago, originally finding his niche as a DJ on the growing jungle scene. Not content with being confined behind the decks Vapour soon took the flow he’d been honing in his bedroom since age eleven and stepped up to the mic as MC Vapour, building himself a solid reputation over the next 5 years.
Over time Vapour became increasingly frustrated with the one-dimensional aspect of the garage beats and as his flow graduated to a more distinct, meditative sound he made the move towards a more hip hop-heavy sound. Arming himself with likeminded producers including Cherok, Lethal Injection and Ray Ruckus, Vapour took to the studio, emerging sometime later - minus the MC moniker - and with a slew of tracks under his belt. Guest spots from some of the UK’s finest MC’s including MCD sit side by side with Vapour’s considered and often semi-autobiographical rhymes.
