London - 30th, 31st October / 1st November

Vapour are to return at the end of October with the launch of an annual event to celebrate independent label culture.  Vapour: A Metropolitan Festival Of Independent Music will run over three nights of gigs and parties in and around London's Shoreditch.

Vapour will feature over 25 independent record labels, each hosting their own parties in 12 different venues.  Already Warp, Haywire, Rephlex, Heavenly, Wall Of Sound, Marine Parade, Wichita, Lex, Sonic Mook, Memphis Industries, Classic, Twisted Nerve, Moshi Moshi, Auralux, and 4AD are confirmed, with further additions to this special line-up to come.  Full details of the labels and their parties are to be announced shortly.

Vapour is the brainchild of Cymon Eckel and Marcus Weedon, who staged their first Vapour event in 1998.  Conceived as a reaction to bland production line events and clubs, they wanted to produce an event that broke down the barriers between musical styles and genres.  The launch event in London was staged in a 20,000 square ft warehouse and separated into four special environments featuring Soma, Warp, Heavenly, and Wall Of Sound.  Vapour then toured the country with even more labels, including Nuphonic, XL, Grand Central, Concrete, Athletico and Brighton's Skint.  It was a huge success and the idea for this new outing has been in development for two years.

Cymon Eckel of Vapour comments: "The Vapour idea is pure and simple; to celebrate independent record labels and their associated artistes, be it a live band, DJ or Producer.  The musical genres represented are purposely wide.  It's the similarities in philosophies and self belief that we consider as important as the music.  In an ever increasing homogenised society individuality and independence become increasingly attractive.  It's going to be a fascinating few days."

Alison Wenham, Chief Executive of AIM comments: "Bringing so many labels together to celebrate independent culture isn't just a great idea - it's going to make for a brilliant three nights of music.  The organisers of Vapour clearly understand the passion driving this sector, which is responsible for some of the most exciting music the UK produces."
