World DJ Fund 2003

World DJ Fund 2003 image

The World DJ Day 2002 global fundraiser gained unprecedented levels of success, and 2003 looks set to smash the previous totals raised. A staggering £300,000 was raised in the UK alone, with close to £100,000 being raised internationally to support Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy, and as with last year, all of the UK high profile dance players will be taking part- MTV, Radio 1, Galaxy, plus all of the leading dance publications including Mixmag, DJ and Muzik. More mainstream media such as Hello, The Face, Loaded and FHM magazines have already proved keen supporters and are promising to take this one step further than last year.

The now renamed World DJ Fund encompasses the year-round fundraising efforts that are being carried out by the dance and DJ community on behalf of Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy. The global fundraising week will run from 19th to 26th April 2003. The same format as last year will be adopted, where the entire dance community will be working together to raise money for Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy in the UK and international children’s charities. DJs, clubs, promoters, magazines, radio stations, TV and record labels will all be involved.

During the fundraising week World DJ Fund will again ask every DJ- from Superstars to Bedroom and everyone in between- to pledge one night’s fee for this great cause. 2003 will once again bring a fantastic creative response to the fundraising suggestions - from a celebrity DJ auction through to school workshops on how to learn to mix with a number of Premier League DJs, plus a sponsored DJ parachute jump. Further raffles, on-line auctions and exclusive media features are being organized. Prizes up for auction this year included an exclusive VIP day out at the British Grand Prix, and a day out at a home game with Chelsea’s Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

Nordoff-Robbins, the renowned music industry charity, will again administer all funds in the UK and inspire others to raise funds for their own local charities. A fantastic £100,000 was raised internationally, and charities that were supported through World DJ Fund last year include Warchild USA, ARIE (Home for children with Downs Syndrome) Peru, Malcolm Sargent Cancer Fund for Children Australia, Instituto do Cancer Infantile Brazil, National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation Canada, Spastics Society of Northern Greece, The Jack & Jill Children's Foundation S. Ireland, and Offroad Kids Germany to name but a few.

Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy does extremely valuable work for both children and adults, and is grounded on the belief that everyone can respond to music therapy, no matter how ill, disabled or traumatised. Over 500 adults and children are treated each week through individual therapy programmes that are designed to encourage personal growth and confidence building, through to stress release, speech and movement co-ordination and development, amongst many other skills. The first initiative of World DJ Fund has enabled Nordoff-Robbins to set up further outreach projects in Dorset and Sheffield, to broaden the reach of their therapy across the UK.

Patrons of the World DJ Fund are some of the leading names in dance music, and have lent their time, energy and much more to make this year such an outstanding success. Recent additions to the Patron’s list include Dave Clarke, Galaxy’s Graeme Park and Steve Sutherland, as well as X-Press 2. They will sit alongside the likes of Pete Tong, Paul Oakenfold, Lottie, Sister Bliss and Danny Tenaglia and continue to give the World DJ Fund their utmost support.

"In 2002 the WORLD DJ FUND raised some £400,000 thanks to DJs and clubbers. To be a DJ is to be given a gift, it's a job millions would like. We'd like every DJ to recognise their good fortune by giving World DJ Fund their support. To be a clubber with scores of weekends and holidays in Ibiza to plan, is something the children we are trying to help will never know. But we can share our love for music with them. We can bring joy where there is confusion. The World DJ Fund is an annual opportunity for us to communicate music and happiness to less fortunate children through the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy whose work is legendary".

Tony Prince (Chairman - World DJ Fund committee)

"It was great to be asked to help out with Nordoff Robbins, as our industry is based around "good times" it is fulfilling to be able to put something back in, and to contribute to such a good cause".X-Press 2

"Backtobasics and Dad Promotions will be proud to be a part of this year's fundraising for the Nordoff- Robbins charity. Last year we made £400,000 which I thought was amazing, I believe it's good for dance music to be involved in such a good cause".  Dave Beer (BacktoBasics)
